How to increase the volume of the microphone

You will need
  • - electret microphone cap for a voltage of 1.5 V;
  • - multimeter;
  • - metal ring;
  • - insulating tape;
  • - glue;
  • - headphone plug 3.5 mm;
  • - soldering iron, neutral flux and solder.
Remove the electret microphone capsule from the faulty hands-free headset - this is where they most often come across designed for 1.5 V and not 3 V. Three-volt capsules for working with a sound card provide almost as quiet sound as dynamic microphones, therefore, their use should be avoided.
Determine the polarity of the microphone cap. If it is not indicated directly on it, find a thin metal strip connecting one of the leads to the body - it is a negative one. In the absence of such a strip, it is possible to determine which of the leads is connected to the body by a multimeter operating in the ohmmeter mode.
Twist the casing from the dynamic microphone. Carefully peel off the dynamic microphone cap and unsolder it.Save this cap in case you need to rewrite the microphone back for karaoke.
Using a multimeter operating in ohmmeter mode, determine which of the two wires that go to the dynamic primer is connected to the plug contact closest to the cable. Connect it to the negative terminal of the electret capsule. Connect the remaining wire to the positive terminal.
Turn the switch on the microphone body to the on position. Shoot it with tape to turn it off, it became impossible. The fact is that in the off position, this switch short-circuits the output, which can cause some sound cards to fail.
Connect the microphone to the computer, make sure the microphone input in the software mixer is on, and the gain control is not at zero. Say something in the electret cap. If there is no sound, then there is no contact or the cap is connected in the wrong polarity. If the sound is quiet, a three-volt capsule is used and it will have to be replaced with another one (the microphone must be disconnected from the computer before any soldering).If the sound is loud, and when you bring the microphone to the speakers, self-excitation occurs - everything is done correctly.
If the housing is now reattached to the microphone, it can carry the wires along, twist them and break them. To prevent this from happening, glue the electret capsule in the same way as the dynamic was previously glued. All wires that can come into contact with the thread and wrap around it, protect the tape. Only then install the casing in place. In case the height of the electret microphone exceeds the height of the dynamic one so that it fits in the casing, put a metal ring of the required diameter and thickness before screwing it on the microphone body.
Connecting a microphone equipped with a 6.3 mm plug to the sound card via an adapter is inconvenient. It is better to immediately replace it with a 3.5mm. It has the contact closest to the cable, connect it to the middle contact and to the negative terminal of the electret cap, and the contact furthest from the cable to the positive one.
A converted microphone will not work with a karaoke player. So that it can be used again with such a player,Replace the capsule back to the dynamic one without observing polarity, the plug with a 6.3 mm plug, and remove the electrical tape covering the switch.
