Padding Seats

Drag the car seat can not only in a specialized salon, but also with your own hands. In this way, you can update the worn-out seats, as well as give the cabin a unique and original style. What you need to drag the seat itself? It is not necessary to have a sewing education! Enough of your desire, patience and a sewing machine. The work is not very difficult, but rather laborious. Therefore, if you are ready, I suggest to start! 01. MATERIALS. What do we need and how much? Our salon will be combined of two colors - black and beige. You, of course, can choose any other colors to your taste. For the central parts of the seat mats, I chose beige perforated eco leather (2.5 m). For the back of the back and pockets - beige without perforation (1.5 m). And for all other details - black leather deputy (3.5m). Choose a special automotive material. It is designed for large temperature differences and is resistant to fading. The usual furniture leather deputy does not fit, as it is designed for comfortable conditions in the apartments. Still need a thin foam - 0.5 cm thick. They will need to glue all the details of the skin. I have a black material duplicated. But for the beige it took 3 sheets of foam rubber. Need a special glue furniture. It is usually pink. It can be purchased in specialized stores.

02. Sewing accessories. • Purchase special needles for leather No. 90 or 100. • You will also need threads for sewing leather (the usual ones will not work, they simply will not withstand the load). Look for threads marked with Extra Strong or for the shoe industry. It will take at least three coils of 200 meters. • 3-5 meters of glue flizelin - by the amount of foam rubber and perforated material. • Engine oil.

03. Material preparation All foam rubber sizing interlining with iron. This is necessary so that during the operation the foam will not crumble. Also non-woven fabric facilitates sliding of the foam rubber under the foot during sewing.

04. Getting to work Remove all trim from the seats (the seat has long been removed from the car).

05. Markup Now, looking at the case, everything seems clear and understandable to us. But when we cut it into parts, it’s easy to get confused about which part is coming from. Therefore, we take a marker and number each element of the cover. For convenience, I drew a diagram of each seat and backrest on separate sheets and also numbered the details. Thus, it will be impossible to get confused.

06. Knitting needles From the seamy side you can find such “pockets” with knitting needles. These wires will be useful to us for new covers. Take them out and set aside for now. Be sure to remember the sewing points for these knitting needles and mark this on your paper chart.

08. Cutting We transfer every detail to the skin of the deputy. To not confuse anything and do not get the details in the mirror arrangement, we put them on the wrong side of the material inside out. As shown in the photo.

09. Allowances for stitches Add on all sides (where required) allowances for stitches equal to 1 cm. Do not forget to number all the details.

11. We get a set of new parts for covers. In this case, this is the back seat. But in the same way, we perform both the back and both front seats.

12. Glue As mentioned earlier, the parts from the leather of the deputy must be glued with foam rubber. I only need to work with beige. Black leather deputy I have ready for sewing. Ideally, you need to glue with an airbrush. But at home it is not always possible, so we apply glue with a brush or rubber trowel. Practice on the scraps of the material, as you prefer. Please note that sticking foam to the skin of the side, which is without non-woven.

13. Potential problem I have a problem with perforated eco-skin. When you try to glue such parts to the foam, glue seeped through the holes. The solution was found this way - first glue the material with flizelin from the inside, and then glue the foam rubber to it. That is, it turned out such a sandwich - eco-leather + flizelin + foam rubber + flizelin. 14. Getting Started When the glued parts are dry, cut and proceed to sewing. We start with the central parts of the seat (or back). We apply markings for decorative lines. 15. Spokes From the seamy side we put the needles and mark where they should be (exactly in the same place as on the old covers). 16. For sewing knitting needles cut out from any fabric strip, equal to the length of the wire. Fold along in half and sew to the wrong side of the corresponding part.

17.We place decorative stitches on the sewing machine, after having first lubricated the front side with oil. This is necessary so that the foot of the machine moves more easily through the material. 18. Assembling parts Now that all parts are ready, proceed to assembly. We stitch all the elements of the cover into one. Here we just need our paper scheme.

19. We stitch in turn all the details.

20. Clothespins Such stationery clothespins can be very useful in the work. We combine parts with them to exactly stitch on a typewriter. Do not use needles or basting, because unnecessary holes will always remain on the material.

21. After stitched parts, cut foam rubber from seam allowances.

26. Continue We sew the rest of the covers - on the front seats, headrests and backrest in the same way. All at first - we break off the old skin, we cut new details, etc. Some details I decided to change a bit. For example, sew pockets in the back of the front seats. Therefore, I cut one whole part into several elements. 27. Result
